Pastor Emeritus Jim Hudson

Pastor Jim would say: “I guess one of my most joyful times that I have is writing.” He says he loves to write about the “Good News,” as well as preaching about Jesus Christ and His saving grace. The Testimony of what Jesus did in his or anyone’s life is to this day the greatest miracle that’s ever shared. The spiritual birth is as much a miracle as the natural birth.

I felt it would be great to share a little of Pastor Jim’s testimony. So I asked Pastor Jim Hudson if it would be okay to let me share his experience of when he first felt the touch of God’s hand in his life. This biographical sketch is probably different than most and rightly so; as each of us have experienced God’s call in a different ways. You see God meets each of us right where we are. Isn’t that wonderful? But Jim has had an interesting career both in his natural life and in his spiritual life. So I am going to share his story with you as it was told by him to me.

In the the Gospel according to John in the third chapter, Jesus uses the conversation with one of the leading Jews of that time. The Bible says; “a ruler of the Jews; a religious leader,” and Jesus used this to tell us that we must be born again. Sometimes that is all we get from that chapter but there are some directions and some amplifications of what it means to be “born again.”

Jesus said; “In all truth I tell you no one can see the Kingdom of God, without being born from above.” And then Jesus said; “In all truth I tell you; no one can enter into the Kingdom of God without being born through water and spirit.” He goes on to say; ‘What is of human nature, what is born of human nature is human.” “What is born of Spirit is spirit.”

“Marvel not; He said; that you must be born again.” “Do not be surprised when I say you must be born from above, the wind blows where it pleases, you can hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going.” “So it is with everyone who is born of the spirit.”

One of the most beautiful verses of the Bible; I feel; best loved, is where in John 3:16 he said; “For this is how God loved the world, He gave His only Son, that everyone who believes in Him would not perish but have eternal life.” “for God sent His Son into the world not to judge the world but so through Him that the world might be saved.” “No one who believes in Him will be judged; but whoever does not believe is judged already.”

So Jim had a beginning of his natural life and experiences in his natural life and then Jim had another birth. And from that; the focus of his life was entirely changed. And if I may; a great miracle took place. And yes; that miracle happens to everyone; not just to Jim; but to all who experience that “born again” experience. As Jim would tell you; “It was the greatest thing that could ever have happened to me in my whole life here on earth.” Jim said: “I can never express to anyone the feeling that surged through my body the night I was born again. He went on to say. “It cannot be expressed; each has to experience it.” At that moment of accepting Christ as savior; God healed Jim of bleeding ulcers; “Planter Warts were removed from his feet that he had been plagued with for years, healed a back condition and God delivered him from cigarettes and alcohol addiction and a filthy language instantly.

Jim says; “Jesus and only Jesus did that for me.” December 31, 1981 at 11:45 PM.

Once saved, born again of the spirit; baptized in the Spirit of God; Jim had a consuming thirst to know God and His Word

God led Jim to Poudre Park six months after his conversion, a place where Jim had spent a great deal of his life as a small child. Although working in the church since July 1982; Jim finally accepted God’s call on his life to Pastor the “Poudre Christian Fellowship,” May 1986, having proved his Divine Gift and calling to the ministry of the Gospel of Christ, now an Ordained Minister of Christ our Lord.
Jim and Velma were married on June 14th, 1987. Residing in Fort Collins after their marriage, they sold the home Velma had built and moved to Poudre Park. Velma has been in the Upholstery, Drapery, and Design Business for twenty-plus years. She is an extremely talented artist and sculptress and has been serving and loving the Lord Jesus for many years. Velma is responsible for the beautiful work in the church building, especially the stained glass windows and the basement floor over which there has been much admiration and conversation.

Jim’s story begins in Fort Morgan Colorado for there he was born in 1930. He attended school and graduated in 1948. In 1950, he entered the United States Air Force and retired twenty eight years later. During that time traveled and lived in eight countries around the world and lived and traveled in forty three states. He served in the Korean War and was assigned in Southern Japan during the time when the Occupational Forces were in control. He was stationed in Vietnam as an advisor to the Vietnamese Air Force and was later assigned to the “White House Jet Attachment,” Andrews Air Force Base, when the first jets were brought into the “White House Fleet Service.” He served with Eisenhower, Kennedy and Johnson and was assigned to Logistic Support for “Air Force One.”

Immediately upon retirement, he was hired by Lockheed Aircraft Service to go to Tehran Iran as an advisor to the Iranian Air Force Logistic System. During the Iran crises Jim tells of their confinement in their home while waiting for an American aircraft to come in and take them out

His adventure during the evacuation from their quarters in the North District of Tehran through and under the protection of the American Embassy, then finally departing from the Tehran Airport, he explained, took approximately thirty six hours. Jim says; “This would surely make one believe in the awesome grace and power of God and our Lord Jesus Christ.” And went on to quote Psalms 107:17, 18 and 19; “Fools, because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted. Their soul loathed all food and drew near unto the gates of death. Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses.”

Jim speaks about God’s hand of protection upon him during his last day at the Iranian Air Base where he was working. Khomeini’s Revolutionists were attacking the Air Base and Jim and seven other Americans escaped the attackers by hiding in the floor of an Iranian bus.

This took place less than one month after another near death attack upon his life came when he, because of bleeding ulcers, was hemorrhaging and was miraculously driven through the streets filled with rioters to a hospital located in Northern Tehran where he received an exploratory operation – this in itself being a miracle of God. And Jim said; “Because of the circumstances surrounding that, it could have only been done by the Grace and power of the Almighty God.

Jim explained that throughout his whole life before he met the Lord there were so many instances of near death that it would take a book to share all of them.

Jim’s favorite scripture verse is found in I John 4:19 which states; “We love Him [Jesus] because He First loved us.” And the one verse he feels that his great grandmother and grandmother prayed over him is found in Hebrews 1:14.

Pastor Jim went home to the Lord October 7, 2019.+-
